Hi all!
If you aren't aware, Tamar NRM works collaboratively with our partner councils and community groups to actively manage the ecological health of many local bush reserves. In some instances, this means turning up with tools and the occasional bit of advice for local 'friends of' groups. In this instance, Graeme Stronach, a long-time Landcare member and engaged West Launceston community member approached us to help organise an information day and replanting session in Woods Reserve.

Woods Reserve is nestled between Brougham and Outram Streets in West Launceston. According to a bit of local oral history, the reserve was a horse stud before being gazetted as a reserve around the 1970's when the area was subdivided (We'd love some more insight here if anyone has any!). For over three decades an active Landcare group has maintained the ecological health of the reserve, reducing the spread of weeds and replanting native vegetation to increase biodiversity.
Woods Reserve is an important bushland reserve from a connectivity perspective, providing a stepping stone between the gorge and Fraser Street Reserve through to Granville Reserve. This means the reserves function as repositories for native flora and fauna, while still facilitating some gene flow, an important aspect of maintaining the health of the bush and diverse array of species. From a recreational point of view, Woods Reserve also has a variety of well maintained paths that are great for a jog or taking the doggo for a walk!

To celebrate this reserve, and the local community members that have maintained it's health over the years, Tamar NRM invites you to an information and replanting day in the reserve. Landcare members will share stories of their work, and we will have a selection of native plants to restore the understory structure of one portion of the reserve. We will also have a sausage sizzle on for lunch!
This event is friendly for all ages and abilities. Registering is very helpful as it allows us to properly plan for catering, please follow this link.
