About the event
Agriculture for the 21st Century – opportunities for Northen Tasmania. Our three speakers are well-known in the local agriculture sector and will bring different perspectives on the industry.
Keynote speaker is Jane Bennett, who has over 30 years experience working in agrifood businesses across Tasmania and the UK. As the founding Managing Director of both Ashgrove Cheese and TasFoods, Jane has extensive experience in building and nurturing premium Tasmanian food brands. Jane is the current Chair of Nuffield Australia.
Richard Gardner is a farmer from Tunbridge who was instrumental in getting the Southern Midlands Irrigation scheme operational and went on to build a dairy farm at Tunbridge as a consequence of having water. Richard is a Nuffield Scholar who has been conducting field trials for the past 3 years in the use of asparagopsis (seaweed) in dairy feed to reduce methane gas emissions.
Robin Tait is a leading consultant in Regenerative Agriculture with a particular focus on mixed species pasture. Â She will talk about the way in which farmers are building soil carbon through their choice of pasture species, and the impact multispecies pastures have on biodiversity. Robin is a Nuffield Scholar.
